Moving Out to My Apartment

Some ideas now that I have the money to move out.

October 15, 2007

A Few Closing Thoughts: A year comes to an end; a new one begins.

First Week in the Apartment: Some of my experiences moving into my apartment and trying to be sustainable.

Living the Suburbs: I might live in a suburban area, but I don't embrace those values.

Midnight Cowboy: City life might be an alienating challenge, but it doesn't have to be essential to identity.

Moving Out and Upwards: A change of time in my life, a time for better.

Now What, Cowboy?: My life after the Assembly Internship.

Moving Out to My Apartment

I have browsing the ads lately in search of an apartment. I look forward to the opporunity to live on my own, now that I am working a full-time job for the NYS Assembly.

Simplicity and savings is the key to my life. I am obtaining a small studio apartment, with just enough room to sleep and live a minimal life. I do not plan in owning a television nor lots of furniture. I will have my dresser, my desk, a futon for sleeping on, and the basic appliances that come with the apartment for cooking and showering. I don't want anything more.

I don't think there is nothing wrong with living like that. I want to spend my time out going to meetings, and learning new things. I'd rather be out at a park or a local library working at a public hotspot, then cribed up in a small apartment. I'd rather spend my money traveling and hanging out on the woods, then spending it on an expensive cable bill.

And I'm still serious about saving for my farm. I already have tucked a fair bit of money away, and I don't want to touch that for any other use. I continue to add to that fund, and I am going to be seeking investment strageties that will help it grow in future years.

My parents keep insisting that I need to have more, and that I can't live a simple life without so many of the disposable commerical products that surround us. They say, you can't just eat fruit all day, and that buying local will be expensive. You can't do it, they insist. I have to disagree.

I will do it. The future is mine to define as I see fit.
