Why Do People Get High?: A look at the causes of illicit drug use.
I don't smoke nor do I use any drugs at all. I do drink an occassional beer or wine. That is simply my personal choice, and it certainly does not have to be your choice. Drug use recreationally is one thing, versus the abuse of drugs by some. There are no particularly bad drugs, just the misue of drugs by some individuals.
Do some drugs cause eratic behavior and influence your ability to make rational choice? Yes. Can they expand your experience and force you to critically look at the world in other ways? Yes. Do many drugs pose real dangers to individuals especially when unregulated by government? Yes. I simply do not think the mind expanding possibility, while interesting is worth the risk.
This all comes down to personal opinion versus political opinion. I personally think drugs of all kinds are distateful, and that the individual must respect the law. On the other hand, I think people should have the right to choose what they put in their body as long as they are responsible for the consequences.
