Unique music in our country has been standardized.

Same Ol' Radio

Radio can be pretty boring. You go to a totally different part of the country, and guess what—top 40 country music sounds just like it does in Albany. And the same generally applies to local oldies stations.

It's All The Same Programming

Even many of the programs are nationally sindicated. You turn on the radio, and you'll find some programs that sound exactly like they do in Albany. Yes, there are local disc jokeys and local programs,

Television is as bad, if not worst. On TV, most of the commericals in Portland are the same as you would here on the local networks. If you were to hear it (on my Portavision 'TV' radio thingy), you'd not know you weren't home.

That consitancy is scary, to say the least.

Disc Jockeys?

They call the disc jockeys, the people who ulimately move the station from track to track, make some stupid comment, and play commericals. But are they really, disc jockeys in the sense we think of them as being? Or are they some commerical BS, that play just the same repeated commerical songs that their corprate sponsers force them to play?

Yes, that's a very cynical way to look at it. But at least at times, it seems to be very close to the truth. True, people like songs they can sing along to, and are familar with, does it not hurt to play an alternative track every once and while, that is also very good?

Shouldn't radio try to sell to the tastes of local populations, instead of being one size fits all? Not like they really listen to the rest of us. Radio show partipication is questionable—how many do they throw away, before they actually consider your selections?
