How one liberal got to like WROW.

Sinning with WROW

I happen to like Paul Vandenburg's WROW station. As a liberal, I know that's a sin and I frequently disagree with what they have to say. Yet, they have something that a lot of other stations don't have: good local programming and discussions of politics. Sometimes their right-wing bias is down-right offensive, other times it forces me to think about my own beliefs and critique them. Most scary though is I can agree with a lot that is said on WROW/Fox Radio.

I'm not a conservative. Yet, I can agree with Fred Dickers statements on how Albany is in decline, and how local taxes are simply putting businesses and family farmers out of business, destroying opportunity and hope at the same time. I disagree with taking away much needed social services or allowing business to deprive people of basic rights in a modern society. Still the difference in opinion is nice to hear in comparison to Alan Chartock's liberal WAMC and the even more radical Renssellear Polytechnic Institutes's WRPI.

I wish WAMC would focus more on local politics, and get more local politicians on for an hour each day like WROW's Fred Dicker show. Certainly then we'd hear Shelly Silver's voice more often then just every couple of months on the Capitol Connection. It is still good to hear the thinking of people like Jimmy Tedisco and Joe Bruno to know the thoughts from people on the other side of the isle.

I will probably get my self in trouble for listening to this station or even exposing some of their opinions that I personally agree with. Yet, I have a first amendment right and I can work to lead my party in the right direction. Listening to conservative talk radio won't poison my mind, but it might just help me think outside of the box.
