Is Feminism Dead?

Feminism is an ideology demanding fair and equal access rights for women. These include protections for the right of abortion, equal pay for equal work, and a society with opporunity. It is part of the greater progressive value system that suggests that all people are born equal and should be treated with fairness. Feminism depends on having progressive leaders in office to ensure that their causes are respected and embraced.

Feminism should not be about one faction of our society getting it's way at the cost of others. If feminism is really dead then it's a function of the decline of Democratic Party then the ideas being somehow outmoded or no longer desired by the vast majority of the American people.

Working in the Democratic Party to get candidates elected, you quickly learn about how factions like the feminist-wing have their own agendas and overlook the problems faced by people as a whole. This is not unlike environmentalists, labor activists, or even gay activists who while having meaningful causes, also sometimes avoid our party's own interests.

In most cases, a policy that good for African Americans and Environmentalists is ultimately good for women. Occasionally, women must compromise to serve the interests of the party in lieu of greater goals. While women must continue to advance the concerns that effect them, they must also spend more of their time on electoral politics.

The ideals of feminism will be healthy and alive once again, when we have a solidly progressive Democratic-majority in both houses of Congress and we elect a strong Democratic president like Lyndon Johnson. Women are essential to the Democratic party coalition, and their values are our values.
