I support the right for the Army and other armed forces to come on campus, just as I support the right of Ward Churchill to speak on Hamilton College. Campuses ultimately should be about allowing fair and equal access to students for the open debate. As with Churchhill, I do not like all the ideas of the military, but they should be entiled to talk.

Some have claimed that the words of the military are deceptive. This is not surpising as they are trying to sell students a product. Whether or not their words are truthful is something for the students to decide. It is the business of the college to educate students to make wise choices. If you believe deeply in your country, and believe it is your duty to fight for a war that you believe to be right, then go and fight for your country.

If you disagree then tell the students why you disagree. De-spin or re-spin the issue as you see fit. If we allow recuriters to speak, then we must also allow others to speak. It's a pretty simple principle. It seems totally reasonable for the federal government to insist on such free speech, and to deny a college it's existance otherwise by holding back federal financial aid. We do this to protect preferred minorities, so why not military recruiters?
