Windy Night: A short poem about spring's winds.
There is no question that I enjoy the beautiful fall weather most weeks. Yet there is one thing I do not like – how rapidly the evening start to fall, even as soon as August starts. By September it seems like more and more of the evening has disappeared into darkness.
I realize the sun is just following the seasonal patterns it has set out as normal. Days will continue to draw shorter and shorter, as the weather gets colder until the bleakest day of them all – the first day of winter. I am not opposed to the fall, but I sure hate how we lose more and more sunset in the evening.
The lack of sunset in the evening makes evening activities next to impossible. After dinner bike rides and walks increasingly approach darkness and are more and more limited, until the only time left is after dark. Political canvasing days grow shorter and shorter. It's just part of the season.
The bounty of the harvest and the warm fall colors are something to look forward to as the summer comes to an end, and the days grow shorter. Even as temperatures drop and days grow short, there is much to look forward to.
