Outblog No. 32

Renselearville State Forest, Kenyon Road.

Parked near Albany-Schoharie County Forest sign. Hiked down to red shale mine. Pretty neat that they have red shale locally—always thought you had to go to the Catskills for that. The water running around the mine almost had a bloody look to it.

Hiked to the South of Stream, followed woods road/fire break, a trail that wondered eventually back up to road. Kind of tough hiking—I had my new shoes on, and I forgot to put my hiking boots on—all that freaking mud.

Hiked back to car, then along Kenyon Road. I wanted to get over the hill, so I could get some great shots of farm country, with the Catskills in the background. Hiked about a mile along the road. No great views yet—too many hills in the way—and the road was too narrow. Some pretty pictures of the fields on the sides, and neighbooring hills.

Went a little farther along the road, and started seeing the first signs of civilization—namely cows in a cow pasture. The bull didn't seem so happy of my presence, so I decided to back away.

Drove down the steep narrow road off Kenyon Road, into a valley, next to the forest. Kind of a neat road. Became smoother, and paved. Some interesting houses around. Wondered over some other roads, using my fine Albany map, and grabbed some more pictures.

Went to Partridge Run for about a hour. Hiked around the loop with the ponds to the South. Nice around there too, but fewer photo ops. Had to move some brush from the road, while driving through.
