Camping in Eminence State Forest.

I went camping out in the Eminence State Forest, which is a great wild place to go camping, in a very rural setting, but probably it's name of eminence is a bit of a misnomer. It was still fabulous weather out, and it's great to get away.

I left on Saturday afternoon and stopped out in Cobelskill to pick up some groceries and to check my email before setting up camp on Betty Brook Road near the creek. There were several other big family gathering going on up there—probably every commonly used site up there was being camped in on Saturday night.

It was beautiful weather out Saturday night, and I had a nice campfire. I also spent some time reading, until I broke the bulb in my leadlamp with a 26 watt CFL. Fortunately, I had a 14 watt CFL bulb in my other light so I could replace, it but wasn't too bright. Read Blue Highway into late into the night.

Sunday I went for a drive down Route 10, did a short hike outside of Delhi. Stopped at a wonderful coffee house in Walton, and drove down and along the beautiful Cannonsville Reservoir. I ended up in Binghamton. I walked around in Binghamton, then drove back up Route 7 to Oneonta, enjoying the scenery and stopping at many of the small towns along the way.

From there I went back to another campsite off of Eminence Road. Another great night, and absolutely nobody around this campsite, although somebody had stayed there the previous night, as witnessed by the warm firepit. Spent much more time reading, and enjoying the starry skies for the passing hours, as I sat by roaring campfire.
