Truckers Plan Protect on the Last Day of Session. It looks as though truckers are planning to come to Albany with their big rigs on June 19th to protest the many fees and high fuel prices that are hurting their industry. P'Link

Anti-Truck Idle Service Ends. The experimental program on the New York Thruway to provide electric and heat to trucks with them off is now dead to the high costs of operating the service. P'Link

Massachusetts Required to Treat Water Run-Off From Highways. A federal trial court has ruled that the state of Massachusetts is responsible for treating polluted water that runs off it's highways. P'Link

More People Bike to Work. That's what the American Prospect is reporting today, along with all the benefits of bike riding to work. I look forward to being able to bike to work, once I don't have to dress in a suit for session. P'Link

24,000 Free E-ZPasses. That's how many E-Z Passes are floating around that allow certain agencies and bureaucrats to ride for free on the Thruway and other MTA highways and bridges.

The thing is as the story reports, there is no rhythm or reason to who gets one and who does not. P'Link

Facing $4 gasoline, more Americans take mass transit. That's what the AP is reporting:

More Americans are leaving their cars at home and jumping on buses, trains, and trolleys as retail gasoline prices approach $4 per gallon, according to a report released Monday by the American Public Transportation Association.

American mass transit use increased 3.3 percent during the first quarter of 2008 while Americans drove 2.3 percent less during the same period, the report said.

The trend builds on last year's record increases when U.S. mass transit use reached a 50-year high as consumers tried to temper the impact of soaring gasoline prices.

"More and more people have decided that taking public transportation is the quickest way to beat the high gas prices," APTA president William W. Millar said in a press release.

Most amazing on this video is how the one driver, using good technique, saved 43% on gasoline on the highway ! P'Link

'Catastrophic Failure' Found in Aged Tires. NITSA is warning people about buying old tires. P'Link

United Airlines Has Dramatic Cuts. Apparently they're the latest victim to high fuel prices. P'Link

Driver Crashes Semi After Falling Asleep. In Bethlehem on the Thruway, another semi-driver was injured when his rig crashed after falling asleep at the wheel. P'Link

Berkshire Spur Delays. They are going to have to stop traffic briefly on the Thruway to allow for repairs to occur on the Castleton Bridge. P'Link

Is There a Short-term Fix for High Gas Prices? That's the question that CNN looks at. P'Link

Average Gas Prices in the US. CNN takes a look. P'Link

Think Gas is Expensive Upstate? Try driving to Westchester County, where gas is averaging $4.30 a gallon. P'Link

School Bus Blues. It's getting more and more expensive for public schools to continue to offer free transportation for their students. P'Link

NYSDOT Statewide Policy on Large Truck Freight Movement. This is worth a read. P'Link

Smile - Cowboy Series (7/1/08)

Thursday, June 5, 2008

State Police Spot-Check Truckers. That's what Daily Gazette is reporting, and some truckers are complaining as they view the safety checks as little more then money makers for the state. P'Link

Workers Urged to Car Pool to Jobs. That's a program that Rensselear and Albany Counties are promoting. P'Link

Transit Providers Appeal for Aid. They want more money to make up for high fuel costs and to ensure their service is still affordable. P'Link

Police, District Officials to Work On Traffic Safety Near Schenectady Schools. They're cracking down on speeding and aggressive driving to save lives. P'Link

Probe Steers DOT Down a New Road. No more loaning out state equipment to employees. P'Link

Canada: Scrap Old Cars and You Get Cash, Bicycles. They are starting a program to get pre-1996 model year vehicles off the road. P'Link
